Energy Performance Certificates and Selling Your Property
Frequently asked questions
What is an EPC?
It's an Energy Performance Certificate which rates how "energy efficient" and "environmentally friendly" your property in on a scale of A-G. It is a legal requirement when you want to sell your property.
When do I need to get one?
You need to commission an EPC before you market your property (though you have 28 days to have one completed).
Why is one still needed - I thought HIPs has been scrapped?
Yes, HIPs have been scrapped BUT while the EPC was part of the HIP, it (the EPC) has NOT been scrapped.
Who can arrange the EPC?
A Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) can provide you with a valid EPC. chard has an in-house DEA and can organise this immediately, to save delays.
How much will it cost?
£150 + VAT.
For how long is the EPC valid?
10 years
Is the EPC rating likely to affect my property's value?
Unlikely for sometime, though when the market gets more sophisticated this may happen.
