Gunnersbury tube station on Chiswick High Road

Gunnersbury, W4
Gunnersbury is not quite Chiswick even though it shares a postcode and is full of much cheaper housing, mainly 1920s and 30s terraced and semi-detached houses, blocks of flats and some detached houses. There is also quite a lot of ex-local authority housing, and also a high proportion of Housing Association property.
The 18-storey British Standards Institution building is on Chiswick High Road and below this is Gunnersbury Station. The population consists of predominately young professionals and managers aged between 20 -34, living in converted flats and working in Central London. There are some nice large houses and upmarket streets, such as Thorney Hedge Road. The average price of a Gunnersbury house in 2008 is £600,000, although there are many conversions from pre-war semis. There are few young children in the area, and it is not a district which particularly attracts families.
The district is near enough to Chiswick High Road for it not to matter too much that there are few decent pubs, restaurants or shops. The usual supermarkets such as Tesco and the Co-Op have a presence, and recommended pubs include the Crown and Anchor, The Duke, The Swan, The Old Pack Horse and The Barley Mow.
Gunnersbury is very near Kew and Richmond so Kew Gardens and Richmond Park are local attractions but also there is the Gunnersbury triangle nature reserve, with thousands of different species of birds and plants, and which has free admission. It I just a few yards from Chiswick Park Tube Station.
